Enrollment

Enrollment at San Diego Met is on a rolling basis, meaning that we enroll students throughout the school year. We are NOT part of the School Choice process, so we are able to enroll your student outside of the Choice window. However, we highly recommend enrolling your student at the start of each school year in August, to ensure that you are able to reserve a spot. It is important to note that the Met starts our school year during the first week of August, ahead of the rest of the San Diego Unified School District. If you are interested in applying to the Met, please complete the following steps in order:

  1. Attend an in-person School Tour. Email [email protected] to reserve a spot. Tour dates can be found on our website’s homepage. If you have an IEP, please email it as an attachment to [email protected]. We will review the IEP to ensure we can support the student’s goals. Please be aware that students with IEPs will be required to complete additional steps to enroll (for example, a change of placement IEP meeting).

  2. At the end of the Tour, complete the Commitment Form offered to you on site and give it to Sylvia Hoffman to hold your spot for the upcoming school year.

  3. Complete an Enrollment Packet (typically available in May of each year) and return it to Sylvia Hoffman. The following items need to be included with the packet:

  • Proof of residence (e.g., utility or cable bill from within the previous 30 days, or a rental agreement or mortgage statement)

  • Up-to-date immunization records

  • Birth certificate

  • Section 504 Plan (if applicable)

Once your Enrollment Packet is received and verified, you can plan for your student to start school at the Met on the first Wednesday in August!

For information about visiting the Met, or to schedule an appointment for enrollment, please contact Sylvia Hoffman at [email protected] or 619-388-2299. During the summer, please contact Robert Fung at [email protected]

Students applying to transfer from high schools within the San Diego Unified School District need their current school principal to contact the Met principal. Ask your current principal to send an email stating that the student wishes to transfer to the Met and that they agree to release the student. The student will still need to complete all of the steps above.

Students applying from a school outside of SDUSD are able to complete an Enrollment Application. In addition to the commitment packet that you will receive after the tour, an Interdistrict Attendance Permit (Spanish version) is required to release the student from the school district of residency. Contact SDUSD Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options for more information at 619-260-2410. Click for more information about Interdistrict Attendance.

**Please be aware that students with IEP's will be required to complete additional steps to transfer.
